The Festival of
Tabernacles 2007 in Thailand
East meets West at the Legacy Institute Sponsored
2007 Festival of Tabernacles in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Once again, the four-star Empress Hotel and Convention Center in
Chiang Mai, Thailand provided a very exotic site for the 2007
Festival of Tabernacles. Chiang Mai is an ancient city founded
over 700 years ago by three Lanna Thai kings. Today it is a
bustling city of both ancient and modern; west blended with
east; and the very exotic cultural traditions of Northern
Thailand enjoyed side by side with modern conveniences.
Feast-goers can visit a modern 7-11, Burger King or Starbucks
and then walk a short distance to enjoy their snack on the banks
of the ancient moat and walls that once made up the boundaries
of old Chiang Mai.
Over 50 participants from 6 different Church of God
organizations gathered together from 7 different nations as one
people to hear messages about the Kingdom of God. They came from
Burma, Laos, Canada, Thailand, Australia, and the USA. Two
former Legacy Institute teachers also joined the Feast in
Thailand: James Hostetter who came from Beijing, China and
Bonnie Turner from Dallas,Texas.
All gathered in Chiang Mai with ONE Spirit and ONE heart to
rejoice at the Feast and worship with ONE mind! The Church of
God is a SPIRITUAL organism. The unity displayed in Chiang Mai
is a clear demonstration of this truth.
Feast-goers got to ride elephants, raft on the river, see exotic
plants, orchids and other flowers, visited one of Queen
Sirikit’s projects, as well as enjoyed talent night and cultural
shows. Sermons on each of the eight days of the Feast were given
by Elders Herbert Vierra, Brian Drawbaugh and Leon Sexton.
Special music was provided by Legacy Institute students, local
Karen refugee brethren and many talented participants from
numerous western nations.
A special treat this year was that all song leading, stage
setup, sound system and much of the special music numbers were
all handled by Legacy Institute students.
The Feast will be held once again in Chiang Mai in 2008. If you
are interested in keeping the Feast in Chiang Mai,
please contact Herbert Vierra at 626-357-2588 or email: accmos@verizon.net
